Everyone wants to be a master photographer. But it’s not as easy as grabbing a camera and shooting a masterpiece. There’s a lot of work photographers put into taking magnificent photos. Below are a few tips and tricks that can give you a leg up on the other amateurs and have you on your way to taking great photos.

Play with the aperture settings. Take a number of photos of the same subject with different settings to see how it affects the look of the final photo. Bigger f-stops allow you to get an entire landscape in focus, while a smaller f-stop will draw attention only to the center of your frame.

Be aware that the weather will influence your pictures. You might not realize it when you take the picture, but a dark sky will give a very gloomy atmosphere to your picture. Compose your pictures accordingly and let the weather inspire you for interesting creations. You can also wait for different kind of weather before you take pictures.

Make sure you have the right lighting before taking a photograph. Lighting is perhaps the most important factor in producing a good black and white photograph, because it affects the texture, contrast and shape of the image. Side lighting can produce some dramatic photographs as it creates shadows and highlights the edges of shapes.

If you’re doing a landscape shot, try and capture some movement in the shot. Whether it’s the wind blowing the trees or a wave crashing against the shore, capturing this movement can add an extra layer of depth to the photograph. If you’re going to try and capture movement, make sure you’ve got the shutter speed set correctly.

In photography, make sure that your main focus is on the quality and not the quantity of the pictures that you take. It is always better for you to get ten great shots than one hundred average shots in a day. Quality is always the better choice.

A good photography tip is to use color contrast as a way to create your focal point. Basically this means the area you want the viewer to focus on should have high color contrast. A good way to achieve this is by putting two pure colors side by side.

Only select the best shots that you have if you are planning on showing your pictures to someone. This will help them form the highest possible opinion of you and your work, which is desirable if you are trying to land a job. Always present your best work to others.

Be careful when shooting with the ISO feature set at a high setting. It will allow you to capture photos in low light settings but it opens the door to noisy pictures that may look grainy. Ideally you should keep the ISO set low or increase it very slightly to capture the low light photos.

An important part of photography is making sure the viewer of the photo focuses in on the subject. An easy way to make your subject really stand out is the use of leading lines. Leading lines draw the viewer’s eye towards the subject of photo and emphasize depth. Examples of objects used to form leading lines include roads, fences, rivers and many others.

Make sure to set up your compositions so that vertical lines are truly vertical. Tilting the camera backwards to capture a tall building, for example, can cause the building to appear as if it is falling backwards out of the frame. Photographs in which buildings are not vertical often appear unnatural.

Those are only a few of the tricks out there to help you take amazing photos. But photography isn’t something you will learn over night, so remember these tricks and try them out until you get the hang of them. Before you know it, you’ll be taking professional quality photos!
